Runner automobiles signs deal with China’s BYD auto industry

B Mirror Report: Runner Automobiles PLC, a subsidiary of the Runner Group, will supply and manufacture China’s BYD electric vehicles (EVs) for the Bangladeshi market. The company has signed an agreement with BYD Auto Industry Company for this purpose. The announcement was made at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) by Runner Automobiles PLC.

The decision was approved at a board meeting of Runner Automobiles on Friday (March 20), during which the company’s current business situation was also reviewed. The board approved the signing of a “Master Supply and Manufacture” agreement with BYD.

On Tuesday, Runner Automobiles officially informed the Dhaka Stock Exchange about the partnership, describing it as a significant milestone for the local automotive industry. The collaboration is expected to boost domestic production and create new opportunities for technology transfer. Citing BYD’s global reputation in the automobile sector, the board expressed strong confidence in the potential and positive impact of this strategic partnership.

Following the announcement, Runner’s share price saw a positive response. According to DSE data, the company’s share rose by 9.97% to Tk 37.50, up from the previous closing price of Tk 34.10.

BYD, a well-known Chinese automaker, officially began selling electric vehicles (EVs) in Bangladesh in 2024. Since then, CG–Runner Bangladesh Limited, a Runner Group company, has been the distributor of BYD vehicles.
