The schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections will be revealed today, according to the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat.
Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed informed reporters at a briefing on Wednesday, August 27, at the Election Bhaban’s Media Center.
According to him, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin presided over a meeting of four election commissioners when the plan was finalized.
As per the roadmap, the announcement for the schedule of the 13th National Parliament is set for December 18, which falls in the third week of December. Voting is scheduled for February 12. If the announcement proceeds as intended, the Election Commission (EC) will have approximately 57 days to prepare for the election following the schedule announcement. To facilitate expatriate voters, an additional 10 days have been allocated between the schedule announcement and the election date. This information has been obtained from sources within the relevant EC officials.
In the meantime, the hearing for claims and objections regarding the draft proposal for the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies concluded on Wednesday (August 27). The EC reported that a total of 1,893 claims and objections were addressed over four days concerning 84 seats across 33 districts. Of these, 1,185 applications were filed against the proposal, while 708 were in support.
Akhtar Ahmed also mentioned that all activities outlined in the election roadmap have been finalized, and the typing process is currently in progress. The action plan we have developed will be made public soon. We just need to be patient for a little while longer.
The roadmap will encompass activities both prior to and following the announcement of the election schedule, including dialogues with various stakeholders such as political parties, updating the voter list, registering new political parties, electoral law reforms, seat reallocation, and training and preparatory activities.
Additionally, there have been requests concerning the seat allocation for Pabna and Sirajganj districts. Pabna has suggested splitting Santhia and Bera-Sujanagar into distinct seats, while Sirajganj has called for the reinstatement of the previous seat allocation.
