B Mirror Desk : On the first day of Baishakh, a record quantity of rice was brought into the region from India via the Hili land port in Dinajpur. 8,400 metric tons of rice were transported in 201 vehicles on this particular day. However, the second wave of rice imports will stop on Wednesday, April 16, since new paddy has begun to grow in the country’s haor districts.
Port sources report that 147 Indian trucks brought in 161 metric tons of rice on Saturday, 144 vehicles brought in 160 metric tons on Sunday, and 201 trucks brought in 184 metric tons on Monday. It is anticipated that 84 trucks will bring in 3,617 metric tons of rice today, Tuesday.
Hili land port plant quarantine assistant director Yusuf Ali said that the government allowed the import to control the rising rice market. Along with this, the import duty on rice was withdrawn. After that, rice import from India started through Hili land port from November 11. Rice import will stop on April 16.
Meanwhile, according to the Hili Land Port and Customs, rice import from India started through Hili Land Port on November 11 last year. As of Monday (April 14), 267,857 metric tons of rice have been imported in 6,400 Indian trucks. Two types of rice, basmati and non-basmati, are imported from India through Hili.
