The government has permitted 23 producers to export a total of 58,000 tonnes of rice bran oil, with approvals valid until November 30, 2025, according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.
Each producer is allowed to export between 500 and 10,000 tonnes, under non-transferable authorizations. Exporters must comply with the Export Policy 2024–2027, and all shipments will be subject to physical inspection by customs authorities. The commerce ministry also reserves the right to suspend exports at any time.
The move follows the lifting of an earlier export ban in 2022, as domestic demand declined. Industry data shows that Bangladesh’s rice bran oil mills have a combined production capacity of 1.63 million tonnes annually, while local consumption remains relatively low but is gradually rising, according to the Bangladesh Rice Bran Oil Mills Association (BRBOMA).
