The government’s revenue from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s main stock exchange, has decreased by 11.85 percent or Tk 32.80 crore in FY 2023-24 compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
According to DSE data, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) tax revenue collection from DSE in 2024 was Tk 243.86 crore, which was Tk 276.66 crore in 2023.
The DSE, on behalf of the government, collects a tax of 0.05 percent and 5.0 percent on the commission and sale of shares to trek holders respectively, and deposits the amount in the government treasury.
In the current financial year, the government’s tax revenue collection from members of the Stock Exchange or Trading Right Entitlement Certificate Holders (TREC) Commission has come down to Tk 153 crore compared to Tk 192.5 crore in 2023.
Besides, tax revenue from the sale of shares by sponsor-directors and placement holders increased to Tk 90.6 crore in 2024 from Tk 84 crore in 2023.
