BM Report:
The Responsible Business Hub (RBH), a joint initiative of BGMEA and GIZ, organized two comprehensive training sessions titled “Training on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence” to enhance the capacity of factory personnel in navigating the intricacies of human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) practices. Held at the BGMEA Complex, these sessions successfully onboarded 25 factories, engaging 44 participants in a deep dive into the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and its emphasis on HREDD compliance.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan presided over the certificate handover ceremony, recognizing the participants’ dedication to mastering HREDD principles. Senior Vice President S. M. Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Directors Faisal Samad, Abdullah Hil Rakib, Navidul Huq, and Rajiv Chowdhury, along with Chair of BGMEA Standing Comm on Trade Fair Mohammad Kamal Uddin, graced the occasion, underscoring the importance of HREDD training for Bangladesh’s ready-made garments (RMG) industry.
The RBH-led training program meticulously focused on building the capacity of compliance, environment, and sustainability managers from diverse factories. These sessions equipped participants with a comprehensive understanding of HREDD terminologies, processes, and risk assessment methodologies, empowering them to effectively implement responsible practices within their respective operations and supply chains.
The newly trained factory managers are now well-equipped to assess potential risks associated with human rights and environmental impacts, enabling them to devise and implement responsible policies that contribute to a more sustainable and ethical RMG sector in Bangladesh. This initiative aligns with BGMEA’s unwavering commitment to fostering responsible business practices and strengthening the industry’s global competitiveness.
The RBH’s dedication to empowering factories with HREDD expertise is a significant step towards ensuring that Bangladesh’s RMG industry adheres to the highest standards of ethical and sustainable practices, paving the way for a prosperous and sustainable future.
