Protest in Jhenaidah Demands Merit-Based Hiring at Islami Bank

Imran, Jhenaidah Correspondent: A human chain was organized in Jhenaidah demanding the cancellation of illegal appointments in the banking sector, including Islami Bank, and the implementation of merit-based recruitment.

On Monday morning, customers and job seekers organized the program in front of the Islami Bank Jhenaidah branch. During the protest, customers of the branch and people from various professions participated with banners and placards.

In the hour-long program, speakers included customers Al Mahmud, Hadi Mohammad, Ziaul Islam Khan, Kazi Rafiqul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Abdul Quddus, Abdus Sabur, among others.

The speakers alleged that from 2017 to 2024, thousands of employees were illegally appointed to Islami Bank by S. Alam Group. They also claimed that a large amount of the bank’s funds had been laundered abroad. Therefore, they demanded the immediate dismissal of those illegally appointed and the initiation of merit-based recruitment.
