tB Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has instructed the authorities concerned to expedite the launch of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He gave the directive during a meeting held at the Cabinet Conference Room of the Secretariat.
After the meeting on Sunday (February 22), State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroz Khanom informed journalists of the development.
She said the Prime Minister is sincere about launching the third terminal as soon as possible and has provided necessary instructions in this regard. “The Prime Minister is trying to ensure that the terminal is opened soon. Work has already begun on this,” she added.
Responding to a question from journalists about when the terminal might be inaugurated, the minister said it is not possible to specify a timeline at this moment. “Discussions will now take place, and if necessary, investigations will be conducted. Work is ongoing to determine how it can be launched quickly. However, no specific date can be announced right now,” she said.
The minister further mentioned that there are several recommendations regarding the third terminal. Some structural modifications may be required in certain areas, and there have also been some network-related issues. Although more than 99 percent of the project work has been completed, various complexities have so far prevented its inauguration.
When asked why the terminal has not been opened despite such significant progress, Afroz Khanom said the matter dates back to the tenure of the interim government. However, she added that the current government is working toward its swift launch, and the relevant departments are taking necessary steps in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, was attended by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroz Khanom, State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq.
