Port Handles Record 2.85 Million TEUs in 10 Months

Chattogram Port has handled 2.85 million containers in 10 months. According to the port authority, container, cargo, and ship handling have all increased compared to the same period last year. The information was confirmed to media by the port secretary, Md. Omar Faruk.

According to the port authority, in the first 10 months of the current year (January–October), Chattogram Port handled 2,849,542 TEUs of containers. Cargo handling amounted to 115,067,200 metric tons, and 3,552 ships were handled. Compared to the same period last year, this represents increases of 132,328 TEUs, 12,908,174 metric tons of cargo, and 351 additional ships. As a result, container handling grew by 4.87%, cargo handling by 12.64%, and ship handling by 10.97%.

Meanwhile, in the first four months (July–October) of the 2025–26 fiscal year, the port handled 1,213,805 TEUs of containers, 45,282,907 metric tons of cargo, and 1,422 ships. Compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, this is an increase of 111,888 TEUs, 6,166,405 metric tons of cargo, and 141 ships. The growth rates are 10.15% in container handling, 15.76% in cargo handling, and 11% in ship handling.

Port Secretary Md. Omar Faruk said that vessel waiting times at Chattogram Port have decreased compared to before. In 2025, vessel waiting time was zero for 9 days in September, 18 days in October, and 19 days in November. Ships arriving at the port are now receiving berth on arrival. This has allowed importers to receive their imported goods more quickly and exporters to load export cargo on schedule. As a result, overall port lead time has improved.

He added that the continued growth in port handling operations is mainly due to the addition of modern cargo and container handling equipment, expansion of yard capacity, increased use of information technology, and above all, the tireless efforts of Chattogram Port’s officers, employees, and workers, along with the sustained cooperation of port users at various levels.
