Polytechnics institutes Across the Nation Temporary Shutdown

B Mirror Desk : The protesting students’ platform, Technical Student Movement Bangladesh, has announced a new program to achieve six-point demands.

Starting on Tuesday, all polytechnic institutions nationwide will implement a shutdown program until their demands are satisfied.
The students announced this program in a press release sent to the media last night.

The release signed by Technical Student Movement Bangladesh Office Secretary (Temporary) Sabbir Ahmed said that all polytechnic institutes across Bangladesh will observe a simultaneous shutdown program from Tuesday, April 29 until an outline is formulated to implement the six-point demands. It’s six points or loss.

Polytechnic students have been protesting for the past few days with six-point demands, including the establishment of a ‘Technical and Higher Education’ Ministry and the formation of a ‘Technical Education Reform Commission’.

The students’ six-point demands are that the High Court should cancel the verdict on the illegal promotion of craft instructors to the post of junior instructor. The titles of craft instructors should be changed, and those involved in the case should be dismissed. The recruitment of craft instructors recruited in the dark of night in 2021 should be completely canceled and the controversial recruitment rules should be amended immediately.

The second demand is that the opportunity to enroll in the Diploma in Engineering course at any age should be canceled. A four-year standard curriculum should be introduced on the model of the developed world and academic activities should be conducted in English in phases.

The third demand is that legal action should be taken against those who are being appointed to lower positions in government, state, autonomous and self-governing institutions despite the fact that the posts are reserved for students who have passed from Assistant Assistant Engineer and equivalent (10th grade).

The fourth demand is that the appointment of non-technical education manpower to all relevant positions including Director, Assistant Director, Board Chairman, Deputy Secretary, Controller of Examinations, Principal in the management of the technical sector should be banned and it should be ensured legally. Notifications should be published for the immediate recruitment of manpower educated in technical education in these posts and for the recruitment of skilled teachers and lab assistants in all vacant posts.

The fifth demand is the creation of a “Technical Education Reform Commission” and an independent “Technical and Higher Education” Ministry.

The fifth demand is the creation of a “Technical Education Reform Commission” and an independent “Technical and Higher Education” Ministry.

The sixth demand is the establishment of a top-notch technical university to offer postsecondary education to graduates of polytechnic and monotechnic institutions. Additionally, by operating temporary campuses and academic programs under the DUET for students who have questions, the four engineering colleges that are currently under construction—Narail, Natore, Khagrachari, and Thakurgaon—should guarantee 100% admission to seats starting with the upcoming session.
