B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities to accelerate construction of the Inner Circular Ring Road project aimed at reducing chronic traffic congestion in Dhaka.
He issued the directive on Sunday during a meeting to review the progress of the circular road construction project at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The prime minister chaired the meeting.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Local Government Division to jointly review the existing project plan and take necessary measures to expedite construction.
He also stressed the need to identify and promptly remove obstacles hampering the implementation of the project. At the same time, he called for effective coordination among the ministries and agencies concerned and directed officials to set a realistic deadline for completing the work.
Construction of different sections of the Inner Circular Ring Road is already underway in several areas of Dhaka. Work is progressing on various parts of the Gabtoli-Babubazar and Postogola-Demra sections.
Road Transport and Bridges and Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabbiul Alam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Ministry Habibur Rashid, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan, and senior officials from the relevant ministries and departments attended the meeting.
The government aims to reduce traffic pressure on Dhaka’s internal roads by completing the project quickly and establishing an alternative road network to help address the capital’s long-standing traffic congestion.
