B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today chaired a meeting on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project at the Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where participants reviewed the project’s progress, implementation process and future operational plans.
According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, the meeting focused on the BRT corridor stretching from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Joydebpur in Gazipur, a major transport initiative aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the capital and its surrounding areas.
The meeting discussed in detail the project’s current status, implementation challenges and potential benefits. Experts attending the session shared their views on various aspects of the project, including its design, station management, passenger services, operational framework and overall effectiveness.
They also presented observations and recommendations to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the BRT system.
Among those present at the meeting were Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Railways Habibur Rashid, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammed Ziaul Haque, and several experts from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), including Prof. Md Shamsul Hoque, Prof. Mosleh Uddin Hasan, Prof. Md Hadiuzzaman and Prof. Rakib Ahsan.
Also attending were Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Syed Moinul Hasan and other relevant government officials.
