Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has approved an additional allocation of Tk100 crore to strengthen its safe water and sanitation programme, according to a press release.
The decision was taken at the 264th meeting of PKSF’s Governing Body held on Thursday. With the new allocation, the organisation’s total funding for the safe water and sanitation sector in the current fiscal year has increased to Tk427.26 crore.
The initiative is expected to accelerate the country’s efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-6, which focuses on ensuring access to safe water and sanitation for all.
At the same meeting, the governing body also approved Tk500 crore in additional funding for the development of the microenterprise sector. As a result, the total allocation for microenterprises in the current fiscal year has reached Tk5,741.57 crore.
PKSF’s partner organisations are also expected to contribute additional funds from their own internal and external sources to support the sector.
According to the release, the increased allocation will help enhance the capacity of micro-entrepreneurs, create employment opportunities and boost economic activities at the local level.
The meeting was chaired by PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan and held at PKSF Bhaban-2 in the capital’s Shyamoli area. Governing body members Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Nurun Nahar, Farzanah Chowdhury, Dr Md Taufiqul Islam, Lila Rashid, and PKSF Managing Director Fazlul Kader, among others, were present.
