people’s leasing takes board EOIs to high court

Troubled non-bank financial institution (NBFI) People’s Leasing and Financial Services Ltd. has said that several sponsor shareholders have expressed interest in joining its board of directors, and the company has decided in principle to forward their expressions of interest (EOIs) to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court for consideration.

The listed financial institution disclosed the development through the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday (July 16).

The decision was taken at the company’s 106th board meeting held on Wednesday (July 15).

According to the disclosure, several sponsor shareholders have formally submitted EOIs seeking inclusion on the company’s board of directors.

Following detailed discussions, the board approved the EOIs in principle and decided to submit them to the High Court Division for consideration.

The company said it would apply to the court for the necessary orders in accordance with existing judicial directives and applicable laws.

People’s Leasing clarified that the board has not decided to appoint any new directors immediately. Rather, the move is a procedural step to place the matter before the High Court for approval and guidance. The final decision on the proposed board appointments will depend on the court’s order.
