People in Tangail shiver in the intense cold

Mrinal Kanti Roy , Tangail Correspondent: A cold wind is blowing from the northwest towards the capital over Tangail. Moderate to dense fog has been falling since midnight till morning. The wind speed has been 5 km per hour since morning. On Tuesday, January 6, the minimum temperature in Tangail was 12.0 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, Monday, the minimum temperature was 10.3 degrees Celsius. As a result, the normal life of low-income people is being disrupted. The income of the middle class has decreased. Even though the sun appears twice a day, there is no brightness. Big shop owners are sitting and waiting for customers, passing the time in the cold. The demand for winter clothes has increased. On the other hand, customers have gathered in hot tea and paan shops. People, especially those living on the sidewalks and daily wage workers, are trying to reduce the intensity of the cold by setting fire to paper and dry leaves in various open places. Due to the increase in cold, the incidence of cold-related diseases including cold, cough, fever is also increasing among children and the elderly. In addition, this weather of nature is giving an early message of Paush Sankranti. In a few days, the day-long festival of Paush Sankranti will be celebrated. Especially in old Dhaka, people celebrate the festival by eating pithe-puli, flying kites, bursting firecrackers and lighting lanterns. Bazlur Rashid, the officer in charge of the Tangail Meteorological Office, said that the intensity of the winter may increase further from Wednesday.
