Panchagarh Journalists Demand Special Tribunal

A Based Panchagarh Correspondent:  Media professionals in the district organized a human chain event in Panchagarh to protest the killing and mistreatment of journalists across the nation, notably the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur and the violent assault on journalist Anwar Hossain Sourav.

This hour-long demonstration took place in front of the Panchagarh Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday afternoon. Journalists Shafiqul Alam, Mosharraf Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun Ronik, Saiduzzaman Reza, Insan Sagard, Abu Nayem, Shahjalal, and Bangladesh JSD Organizing Secretary Azharul Islam Jewel addressed the gathering organized by the Sammilit Journalists’ Association of the district. During the event, the speakers remarked that while governments have changed, the harassment of journalists continues unabated.

The safety of journalists remains unguaranteed even today. Those who risk their lives to report on the joys and sorrows of the populace, as well as to expose irregularities, corruption, and terrorism, are facing threats. Journalists are being brutally murdered in broad daylight. Over the past year, many journalists have endured torture. Despite hopes for freedom and protection for Bangladeshi journalists following the mass uprising, these expectations have yet to be realized. Such incidents persist due to the lack of justice for the murders and mistreatment of journalists throughout the country, including the case of Sagar Runi. Consequently, they called for the establishment of a special tribunal to ensure swift justice and protect journalists.
