Noakhali Correspondent: A cleanliness drive was conducted at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office in Noakhali on Saturday to prevent dengue and destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shafiqul Islam inaugurated the programme at the LGED office at around 10:30am on October 10. The drive covered the office premises and surrounding areas.
LGED Noakhali Executive Engineer Jugol Krishna Mondal, Senior Assistant Engineer Kamal Kanti Pal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shantanu Kumar Dash and other officials from the district administration and LGED were present.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said maintaining a clean environment was essential to preventing dengue. He stressed the need for government and private institutions, as well as individuals, to raise awareness and work together to stop mosquito breeding.
He called for turning cleanliness into a social movement and urged people to ensure that water did not accumulate anywhere. He also emphasised regular cleaning activities and public awareness campaigns to reduce the risk of dengue.
Jugol Krishna Mondal said the cleanliness drive was organised in line with the government’s dengue prevention programme. He added that LGED would continue such initiatives.
After inaugurating the drive, the deputy commissioner inspected a government-priority solar power project installed at the LGED office and planted a fruit-bearing tree on the premises.
