B Mirror Report: Md. Mostaqueur Rahman, the newly appointed Governor of Bangladesh Bank, joined the office today (26 February) at 10:40 AM, the day after his appointment. Deputy Governor and senior officials of Bangladesh Bank welcomed him. Upon entering the office on his first day, he told reporters, “I have arrived, let’s start work; then we can speak.”
The government appointed Md. Mostaqueur Rahman as the 14th Governor of Bangladesh Bank yesterday, replacing Ahsan H. Mansur. This marks the first time in Bangladesh’s history that a businessman has been appointed as the central bank governor. His four-year term begins from the date of joining, with the condition that he severs ties with all other institutions and organizations.
Md. Mostaqueur Rahman is a professional accountant (FCMA) and a businessman, serving as Managing Director of Hera Sweaters. He is also chairman of BGMBA’s permanent committee on Bangladesh Bank matters. Additionally, he was a member of BNP’s election management committee during the 13th national parliamentary election.
Born in 1966 in Dhaka, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Dhaka University in 1987 and a master’s in the same field in 1988. He is a fellow member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) and qualified as a cost and management accountant in 1992.
With over 33 years of experience in corporate finance, export economics, institutional governance, and financial management, Mostaqueur Rahman also served as a board member of Chittagong Stock Exchange from 1998 to 2000.
