NCC Banks annual risk conference held

With the commitment to raising awareness about risk, building an effective and strong risk management system, and properly complying with regulatory directives, NCC Bank’s Annual Risk Management Conference-2026 was recently held at the bank’s head office. The theme of this year’s conference was “The Changing Landscape of Risk Management Practices in the Banking Industry.” Md. Mojibur Rahman Sheikh, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, attended the conference as chief guest. The conference was presided over by M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank, while Dipti Rani Hazra, Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Supervision Department (BSD-04), attended as special guest. M. Khurshed Alam, Additional Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of NCC Bank, delivered the welcome address. At that time, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director and CFO of NCC Bank, was present. Among others, Md. Alamgir Hossain, Joint Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Supervision Department (BSD-04); Saif Alam, Head of NCC Bank’s Risk Management Division; and Md. Meizanur Rahman, Head of Information Security and IT Governance, gave analytical discussions. The event was attended by divisional heads of the head office, branch managers and other top executives, and officials of the Risk Management Division. In addition, managers and relevant officials of the bank’s other branches joined via digital platform.

In his speech as chief guest, Md. Mojibur Rahman Sheikh, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, said there is no alternative to effective risk management to ensure long-term, orderly and sustainable operations in every area of banking activities. He called upon all concerned to ensure the bank’s stability by properly identifying, assessing and controlling various risks, including changing economic conditions, technological advancement, AI and cyber risks, credit risk, liquidity risk and operational risk. He thanked the NCC Bank authorities for organizing a timely conference on the risk management.

In his presidential address, M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank, said NCC Bank has always conducted its banking operations following Bangladesh Bank’s directives and prevailing policies and has been working tirelessly to ensure effective risk management. He said that to establish a strong “risk management culture,” officials and employees at every level of the bank must be aware of the potential risks associated with their respective duties and activities. He advised all concerned to work more cautiously, responsibly and in a coordinated manner in risk management, alongside identifying, assessing and controlling potential risks in advance.

In her speech as special guest, Dipti Rani Hazra, Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Supervision Department (BSD-04), said that merely identifying risks is not enough; it is necessary to analyze the potential impact of risks, take preventive measures in time, and build a risk management culture at all relevant levels. She emphasized properly complying with Bangladesh Bank’s issued directives and policies, as well as further strengthening the bank’s own policies, internal control systems and governance framework

Khurshed Alam, Additional Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of NCC Bank, gave an analytical discussion on the bank’s major risks, the challenges of various risks arising in the current banking environment, and effective risk management practices. He provided guidance on what relevant officials should do in risk management, as well as on identifying, assessing, monitoring and controlling potential risks.
