NCC Bank shifts toward investment-led earnings

NCC Bank PLC is increasingly relying on investments rather than its core lending business to support earnings, with its 2025 financial results showing a decline in net interest income but strong growth in investment income.

The bank’s net interest income fell by Tk 47.82 crore, or around 8%, to Tk 562.64 crore in 2025 from Tk 610.46 crore in 2024.

In contrast, total investments rose by Tk 2,250.89 crore, or nearly 30%, to Tk 9,839.97 crore in 2025 from Tk 7,589.08 crore a year earlier.

Investment income also increased significantly, rising 35% to Tk 1,002.15 crore in 2025 from Tk 743.70 crore in 2024. The bank invested in government securities including Treasury bills, Treasury bonds and prize bonds.

NCC Bank also earned Tk 285.32 crore from commissions, exchange and brokerage activities and Tk 157.71 crore from other operating income during the year.

Supported by these sources, the bank’s net profit increased 11% to Tk 486.12 crore in 2025 from Tk 437.30 crore in 2024.

However, the bank’s operating expenses remained high. Employee salaries and benefits amounted to Tk 402.18 crore, while total operating expenses reached Tk 700.40 crore. The bank also incurred Tk 713.90 crore in loan provision expenses.

As of December 31, 2025, NCC Bank’s total loans stood at Tk 26,269.88 crore against deposits of Tk 29,738.85 crore. Its paid-up capital was Tk 1,110.42 crore and net assets stood at Tk 3,016.20 crore.

The bank also had Tk 477.01 crore placed with various banks and leasing companies, including Tk 115 crore in a fixed deposit with EXIM Bank in 2025.

The shift toward investments becomes more evident over the past five years. Between 2020 and 2025, NCC Bank’s deposits increased 51% and loans rose 52%, while investments surged 126%.

The figures indicate that although the bank has managed to increase its overall profit, a growing share of its earnings is coming from investments and other income sources rather than its traditional lending business.
