BM Desk : The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Oikka Parishad has announced a pen-down program for June 23, rejecting the newly-formed committee on amending the ordinance for bifurcating the revenue board. At a press conference on Saturday, members of the Parishad called on all officials and staff in the capital to stage a demonstration and observe the pen-down program from 9.0 am to 12 pm. They also demanded resignations.
The Ministry of Finance passed a decree on May 12, 2025, dissolving the NBR and splitting it into two wings: revenue administration and revenue policy. Later, in order to resolve the revenue officials’ concerns, the MoF postponed the ordinance’s implementation until July 31, 2025.
The NBR established a six-member group with six representatives from the VAT, customs, and income tax wings to investigate the issue in response to the MoF instruction.
