NBR Extends Income Tax Return Submission Deadline

B Mirror Report: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to submit their income tax returns for the 2025–26 tax year until February 28, 2026.

The extension has been granted in the public interest under the authority of Section 334 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, with prior approval from the government, according to an official NBR order.

Earlier, the deadline for filing income tax returns for the concerned category of taxpayers was scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, the NBR has made online filing of income tax returns mandatory for all individual taxpayers for the current tax year. As per the directive, returns must be submitted through the NBR’s e-return system at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd.

However, considering possible technical and registration-related difficulties in the e-return system, the revenue authority has allowed conditional flexibility.

Taxpayers who are unable to submit their returns online may apply for permission to file a paper-based return. In such cases, applicants must submit a written application with valid and reasonable grounds to the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Taxes by February 15, 2026.

Following approval from the respective Additional or Joint Commissioner of Taxes, the taxpayer will be permitted to submit a manual income tax return.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening the digitalisation of the tax administration system, while ensuring limited relief for taxpayers facing genuine technical challenges.
