Tabarak Lakshmipur Correspondent: A mother took her own life after poisoning her child following a dispute with her married elder daughter in Raipur, Laxmipur. The victims were Taslima Begum (40), the wife of farmer Sahabuddin Majhi from Gias Uddin Majhi’s residence in Charlakshi village of Dakshin Charbangshi UP in Raipur upazila, and her daughter Mitu Akhtar (2).The tragic event occurred early on Tuesday (July 22). Abdul Mannan, the OC Investigation of Raipur Police Station, confirmed the incident.
According to family members, about three years prior, the eldest daughter, Sabina Akhter, married Mahfuz Alam, the son of Abdul Karim from Charlakshi village. Sabina had been experiencing emotional issues with her husband, leading to frequent conflicts with her in-laws. For the past month, there had been ongoing disputes between the mother and her eldest daughter regarding this matter. Despite being advised against it, the daughter continued her behavior. On Tuesday morning, a heated argument erupted between them. In a fit of rage, Taslima Begum, while heading to eat rice near their home, poisoned one of her infant daughters and ingested poison herself. Bystanders managed to rescue them and rushed them to the Raipur Upazila Health Complex.
Shahabuddin Majhi, the deceased’s husband, has accused his wife and children of murder and is seeking justice for his eldest daughter, Sabina. Sabina Akhter, the accused, has declined to provide any statement.
A local villager named Al-Amin reported that when they brought the two-year-old child to the hospital, the doctor pronounced her dead. Following this, Raipur police retrieved the bodies of the deceased, transported them to the police station, and sent them to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Abu Saleh Mintu Faraji, the Chairman of Dakshin Charbangshi UP in Raipur, expressed, “This incident is tragic. The mother and child took their lives by consuming poison due to the elder daughter’s misconduct. The elder daughter will face legal consequences.”
