Mir Ershad Ali names new Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard

Mir Ershad Ali took charge as the 14th Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard on Wednesday.

Last January 14, in the notification of the Public Administration Ministry’s Dispatch-1 Division, this officer was given the responsibility as the Director General of the Coast Guard, reads a press release. 

A press release signed by Coast Guard media officer Lt. Commander BN Khandkar Munif Taqi said that before being appointed as Director General of Coast Guard, he was last appointed as Chairman of Mongla Port Authority. 

Mir Ershad Ali in his long career of 34 years, he has been inspired by the ideals of the father of the nation, the spirit of liberation war and patriotism, and he has left the signature of extraordinary professionalism and military capability. He is committed to the development and progress of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Mir Ershad Ali was commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Navy on 1 July 1989. 

Later, his career was enriched by maritime experience and various trainings conducted at home and abroad. He has completed Naval Officers Basic Course from Germany, and Gunnery Specialization Course from India. 

He graduated from Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and holds a Masters in Defense Studies (MDS) from National University, Dhaka.

He is also an alumnus of the German Staff College, where he was adjudged the best officer of the course and received the prestigious ‘Schernhorst Award’.
