Massive irregularities in rice distribution among fishermen in Rajbari

Md. Nazrul Rajbari Correspondent: There have been allegations of massive irregularities in the distribution of special VGF-2025 food grains among fishermen in Rajbari to prevent the killing of mother hilsa. The UP chairman is distributing rice as he wishes due to the negligence of the supervisory authority. The affected fishermen have demanded that the matter be investigated and immediate action be taken.

On Monday afternoon, when we went to the railway station area of Rajbari city, we saw Ferdous, the representative of Dadshi Union Chairman Delwar Hossain, distributing rice. The tag officer and deputy assistant agricultural extension officer Abdul Quddus were not present here. However, the rice distribution was going on in the presence of Sadar Upazila Fisheries Office field assistant Md. Yakub Ali.

The chairman’s representative Ferdous said, the tag officer has left after inaugurating it. I am distributing rice the way I was asked to distribute it. He admitted to giving 80 kg of rice to 3 people in one go.

Fishermen Md. Yusuf Sardar, Abdur Razzak Mandal, Aynal Molya said, “We are allotted 80 kg of rice in each of our names. But 80 kg of rice is being distributed in the names of 3 people at a time. Even though we protest, no one is listening to us. It is unacceptable that our due rice will be wasted. We demand that proper investigation be taken before taking action.”

Although attempts were made to contact Dadshi Union Parishad Chairman Md. Delwar Sheikh on his mobile phone to find out about this, he did not answer the phone.

Tag Officer and Deputy Assistant Agricultural Extension Officer Abdul Quddus said, “I am out on urgent work. However, I went and told you to provide 80 kg of rice to each person. There is no chance of distributing 80 kg to 3 people.”

Rajbari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Maria Haque said, “Each fisherman is supposed to be provided 80 kg of rice. There is no chance of distributing 80 kg to 3 people. We are looking into the matter now.” Rajbari District Fisheries Officer Md. Nazmul Huda said, 80 kg of special VGF rice per person has been allocated to 3,189 fishermen in 5 upazilas of the district to prevent the killing of mother hilsa. If anyone gives less than this rice, there is no chance of that. However, the matter will be investigated and action will be taken.
