Market capitalization decreased by Tk 23,500 crore

In the past week (December 8 to December 12), all the indices of the country’s main capital market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and the other capital market, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), have fallen. The total market capital of both the stock exchanges, including the indices, has decreased by more than Tk 23,500 crore during the week in question.

This information was revealed in the weekly market review of the DSE and CSE.

At the beginning of last week, the market capital of the country’s main capital market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange, was Tk 6,63,704 crore 97 lakh. At the end of the week, the market capital stood at Tk 6,52,496 crore 35 lakh. That is, the market capital of the Dhaka Stock Exchange decreased by Tk 11,208 crore 62 lakh or 1.69 percent in the space of a week.

At the beginning of last week, the market capital of the country’s other stock market, the CSE, was Tk 7,214 crore 51 lakh. And at the end of the week, the market capital stood at Tk 6,88,396 crore 28 lakh. The market capitalization of the CSE has decreased by 11,818.23 crore taka in the past week. That is, the total market capitalization of the two stock exchanges has decreased by 23,268.5 lakh taka in the past week.

All the indices of the DSE have decreased this week. The main price index DSEX has decreased by 91.39 points or 1.76 percent. In addition, the DSE-30 index has decreased by 30.02 points or 1.57 percent. And the DSES index has decreased by 23.92 points or 2.06 percent.

Along with the decline in the index, the volume of transactions has also decreased in the DSE. The total transactions in the DSE throughout the week were 1,610.92 crore taka. The total transactions in the previous week were 2,221.74 crore taka. The transactions have decreased by 610.82 crore taka in a week.

On average, 322.18 crore taka were traded on the DSE on each working day of this week. The previous week, the average daily trading volume was 444.34 crore taka.

Shares and mutual fund units of 392 companies were traded on the DSE throughout the week. Of these, the prices of 76 companies increased, 293 decreased and the share prices of 23 companies remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, in the country’s other stock market, the main indices CASPI and CSCX of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) fell by 1.90 percent and 1.91 percent respectively to 14,304 points and 8,702 points.

In addition, the CSI index fell by 1.70 percent and the CSE-30 index by 0.20 percent to 925.38 points and 11,755.93 points respectively. And the CSE-50 index fell and is standing at 1,083.83 points.

During the past week, the CSE has traded 269.6 million taka, which was 275.2 million taka in the previous week. The trading has decreased by 56 million taka during the week.

Shares and mutual fund units of 315 companies were traded on the CSE during the week. Of these, the prices of 67 increased, 213 decreased and the share prices of 35 companies remained unchanged.
