Maksud Kamal concerns over country’s development continuation

BM Desk:

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor ASM Maksud Kamal expressed his concerns about conspiracies aimed at disrupting the country’s development.

Speaking as the chief guest at the seminar titled “Democracy, Development, and Elections: Bangladesh in Context,” organized by the Campaign Advocacy Program at the Dhaka University Student-Teacher Center auditorium on Thursday, he emphasized the importance of fair and impartial elections to ensure people’s voting rights.

Addressing the audience, Kamal stated, “We are here to discuss the need for a fair election in the country, ensuring that people can vote freely. We expect those who come to power to do so through democratic processes.”

Referring to the political party integral to the country’s independence, he added, “We are talking about the political party through which this country gained independence. The 70th election was conducted under the leadership of this party, and Bangabandhu played a crucial role in ensuring the election.”

Other speakers at the event included DU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Sitesh Chandra Bachar, DU Television Film and Photography Department AGM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, DU Teachers Association General Secretary Professor Zeenat Huda, DU Teachers Association President Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, Kabi Nazrul University Vice-Chancellor Soumitra Shekhar, and AFM Abdul Moin, Vice-Chancellor of Comilla University.

The discussion highlighted the need for a strong and vibrant democracy to safeguard the country’s development and ensure the rights of its citizens. The speakers emphasized the importance of free and fair elections as the cornerstone of a democratic system. They also called for increased voter participation and active engagement from civil society to uphold democratic principles.

The event concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to work together to strengthen democracy and promote sustainable development in Bangladesh.
