Habibur Rahman, Tangail Correspondent: In a move to promote environmental awareness and beautify educational institutions, the Madhupur Upazila administration has launched a tree-planting campaign involving 110 schools and colleges. The campaign includes planting three species of native flowering trees—Krishnachura (Royal Poinciana), Jarul (Queen’s Crape Myrtle), and Sonalu (Golden Shower)—to create greener and more aesthetically pleasing campuses.
The initiative, led by the Tangail District Administration, aims to foster a stronger connection between students and nature, while also enhancing the learning environment. The campaign was officially inaugurated on the morning of Thursday, August 14, at the premises of Shahid Smriti Higher Secondary School in Madhupur. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jubayer Hossain planted the first saplings beside the school’s Shaheed Minar, marking the start of the program.
The tree-planting effort, themed “Commitment of Conscious Citizens to Protect Nature and the Earth,” involves secondary, higher secondary, technical, vocational schools, madrasas, and all government offices in the upazila. Each participating institution and office is receiving three saplings—one each of Krishnachura, Jarul, and Sonalu.
Speaking at the event, UNO Jubayer Hossain said, “This initiative is part of a wider program across Tangail district. Our goal is not only to beautify the surroundings but also to nurture environmentally conscious citizens for the future. Through this effort, we hope to instill a love for nature in our younger generation.”
Also present at the inauguration were acting headmaster of Shahid Smriti Higher Secondary School Nitai Chandra Kar, Livestock Officer Dr. Shahiduzzaman, Social Services Officer Mostafa Hossain, Project Implementation Officer Rajib Al Rana, Accounts Officer Moniruzzaman, Public Health Engineer Imran Hossain, Agricultural Extension Officer Tanji Noor Ratri, and Women Affairs Officer Sharmin Sultana Sumi.
The event drew the participation of government officials, school teachers, students, and local journalists, all united in their support for a greener Madhupur.
UNO Jubayer Hossain extended an open invitation to all institutions and offices to take part in this green initiative, emphasizing that everyone has a role in preserving the environment and beautifying their surroundings through such efforts.
