Legal Advisor Questions Doctors’ Links to Pharma Companies

In which nation do private hospitals assign doctors specific time slots for representatives of pharmaceutical companies? Physicians work as legal counsel, parliamentary consultants, and drug company brokers. Asif Nazrul.

At the Shaheed Abu Said International Convention Center on Saturday, August 8, he served as the special guest for the inauguration of the newly elected executive committee of the Bangladesh Private Hospital, Clinic and Diagnostic Owners’ Association (BPHCDOA).

The legal advisor stated, “I visit the hospital at least five to six times a year. I have never sought treatment abroad due to financial constraints. I receive quality medical care in my country because of my recognition. However, do ordinary citizens receive the same level of service? Instead of listening to patients, doctors frequently order 3-5 tests and recommend medications from specific companies. This practice must be stopped.

He further questioned, in which country are doctors allotted specific times for drug company representatives in private hospitals? Are doctors acting as brokers for pharmaceutical companies? Are the prominent doctors in our country merely intermediaries for these companies? This situation has developed on its own. Additionally, doctors often report inaccuracies in test results, yet there are many facilities in the country that provide reliable testing.

The legal advisor mentioned that the most distressing aspect is the conduct and frustration of the majority of hospital nurses and staff. They are furious and unwilling to provide service. This is due to their salary of Tk 12,000, which is insufficient. I personally know many hospital owners. Numerous individuals can afford to remain at home in their lavish gardens, yet nurses are not compensated with a decent salary. You benefit, but it should be done justly.

He further stated that nowadays, people prefer not to travel to India or Bangkok. They wish to receive services from you because you have demonstrated your capability. If you raise the salaries of nurses and other staff, your profit may decrease by Tk 1 crore. If you make Tk 1 crore, your profit margin will drop to less than 5 percent. Consequently, they will be able to provide the necessary services. If not, then it is in Allah’s hands.
