The grand inauguration of the 289th branch of Karmasangsthan Bank in Tongibari, Munshiganj was held on 16 May 2026. The function was organized at the conference room of the Institute of Marine Technology, Tongibari under the chairmanship of Karmasangsthan Bank Chairman and former Secretary Dr. AFM Matiur Rahman and was graced by the Principal Secretary to the Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, A B M Abdus Sattar as the chief guest. Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Munshi Alauddin Al Azad NDC and Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department Nazma Mobarek were present as special guests. In addition, Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-02 constituency Abdus Salam Azad was present as the opening speaker.

At the beginning of the inaugural ceremony, Managing Director Arun Kumar Chowdhury, in his welcome speech, informed the guests about the overall activities of the bank.

The chief guest, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, ABM Abdus Sattar, in his speech, commented that among the two good and bad pictures in the banking sector, Karmasangsthan Bank has a comparatively good picture. He called for maintaining this achievement and creating more jobs through financial inclusion.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Karmasangsthan Bank Dr. AFM Matiur Rahman presided over the program. Other speakers included Munshiganj-02 MP Abdus Salam Azad, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department Nazma Mobarek, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, member of the bank’s board of directors and executive director of Bangladesh Bank Md. Hanif Mia, and Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi.

Abdus Salam Azad, Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-02, mentioned Tongibari as a potential area in his speech. He expressed hope that agriculture, fisheries, small businesses and other industries will be strengthened and new employment opportunities will be created if they receive financial support and training from the Karmasangsthan Bank.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, in his speech, termed the inauguration of the Tongibari branch as a milestone for the Bank. He called upon the local youth, women entrepreneurs and small businessmen to move forward on the path of self-employment with the financial support of this branch.

In her speech, the secretary of the financial institution, Nazma Mobarek, expressed that banking is not just a business but also the opening of this branch has opened the door to employment for the unemployed in the Tongibari area. She also mentioned that despite the decline in the participation of women in the country’s labor market, the Karmasangsthan Bank is working extensively to create employment for women.

Also present at the inaugural ceremony were Md. Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Member of the Board of Directors of the bank and former Additional Secretary, Deputy Managing Director Meher Sultana, General Managers Mahmuda Yasmin, Md. Shafiqul Islam Miah, Md. Amirul Islam, all divisional Deputy of the head office, Deputy General Manager of the Dhaka Divisional Office, and local journalists, as well as individuals from all walks of life.

At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest and other guests handed over loan checks to the entrepreneurs of the Tongibari branch.
