Kapilmuni College adopts master plan for development

Paikgacha (Khulna) Correspondent: The newly formed governing body of the historic Kapilmuni College in Paikgacha, Khulna, convened its first official meeting to address the institution’s overall development and pressing challenges. The meeting was presided over by the chairman of the governing body, Anwar Al Din, who is also the Chairman of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Joint Editor of The Daily Ittefaq, and an expert examiner of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
Held in the college’s conference room, the meeting was moderated by Principal Habibullah Bahar, who also serves as the member secretary of the governing body. During the session, a thorough review of the college’s operations and current condition revealed alarming findings. Over the past 16 years, the institution has suffered from rampant mismanagement and political interference, reportedly by local Awami League-backed miscreants. These issues have severely degraded the educational environment and left the college in a dire financial state.
Most of the college’s facilities, including the girls’ common room, laboratories, hostel, classrooms, and internal roads, are in a state of disrepair. In response to this critical situation, the governing body adopted a detailed master plan aimed at revitalizing the institution and transforming it into one of the premier colleges in South Khulna.
A key initiative in this plan is the establishment of the Kapilmuni College Welfare Fund, targeting a financial reserve of one crore BDT. Journalist and human rights activist S.S. Mustafizur Rahman Parvez has been appointed as the coordinator of this fund. A strong advisory committee has also been formed to ensure transparency and efficiency in the fund’s utilization.
Further decisions taken at the meeting include the upgrading of the Political Science Department to offer Master’s level courses and the introduction of an Honours program in Social Work. These academic expansions are part of the broader strategy to improve the college’s educational quality and reputation.
The 58-year-old institution is now embarking on a comprehensive transformation under this master plan. Among the notable attendees were Dr. Abdul Majid, convener of the Paikgacha BNP; governing body members Md. Tahiduzzaman Mukul, Sheikh Din Mahmud, Sabrina Azmi Swarna, Sheikh Iqbal Hossain, Prof. Md. Shafiul Azam, Sharmin Sultana, Akram Joaddar, Shirin Sultana, and Abdul Kuddus.
Journalists Parvez Mohammad, G.M. Aminul Islam, and Press Club convener H.M. Shafiul Islam Eskandar Mirza were also present, along with student leaders Deben Ghosh, Abu Huraira Badsha, and Zahid Hossain. Discussions covered multiple aspects of the master plan, including the welfare fund, boundary wall construction, and other infrastructural improvements.
The initiative marks a hopeful turning point for Kapilmuni College as it aims to restore its legacy and provide quality education to future generations.
