Jewellers for strict security measures

Since theft, robbery, snatching, direct attacks on jewelry companies, and murders have increased nationwide in recent months, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has called for immediate security measures.
Jewelry company owners are calling on the government to give their lives and property more protection in light of these mounting worries.

The nation’s largest trade association for product-based sectors, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus), thanked the government in a media release on Wednesday for its recent efforts to combat organized crime that targets jewelry stores.

Nonetheless, they have demanded more assistance to guarantee the security of the jewelry industry.
According to Bajus’ analysis of media sources, the number of recent theft, robbery, and snatching crimes has alarmingly increased.
According to the report, jewelry stores are now popular targets for burglars and criminals.

According to statistics, 17 jewelry stores in the capital, Dhaka, and other areas have experienced theft and robbery in the last eight months, with losses estimated to be over Tk 40 crore.

This has left many jewellery businesses feeling highly insecure, Bajus said.

Bajus’s acting president Gulzar Ahmed said that jewellery businesses are being repeatedly targeted, causing widespread panic among the business owners. ‘This is creating a sense of vulnerability among jewellers, and we urge Home Adviser to help improve the security situation,’ he said.

Bajus General Secretary Badal Chandra Roy called for immediate measures to address the issue, and requested that authorities ensure the overall safety of jewellery businesses and gold traders.

In order to protect jewelry store owners, he also demanded that licensed guns be promptly returned to them.
According to statistics, 11 theft and robbery instances were reported nationwide in just the first three months of the new year.
