Inflation will take one year to become bearable: Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has said that it will take another 10 to 12 months to bring inflation down to a tolerable level.

He said this at a seminar organized by BRAC EPL at a hotel in the capital on Thursday (December 12).

Commenting that it is not possible to control inflation quickly due to supply shortage in the market, Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur said that inflation will be brought down to 7 percent by June and 5 percent in the next fiscal year.

Urging depositors to be patient, the governor said that all information and data of weak banks will be verified. As a result, it will be revealed who took money from the banks. Political help will be sought from Europe and America to bring back this laundered money.

Forecasting that the prices of potatoes and onions will normalize in one to two months, Ahsan H. Mansur said that potatoes and onions could not be produced on time due to the August-September floods. That is why the prices are high. Moreover, the Governor of Bangladesh Bank also expressed optimism that the elected government will be able to leave a balanced economy.
