India seeks positive relations with Bangladesh: Jaiswal

B Mirror Report: India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has said that New Delhi is keen to strengthen its multifaceted relationship with Bangladesh. He added that India is interested in discussing ways to take bilateral ties in a more positive direction. He made the remarks at a briefing on Friday.

Jaiswal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman immediately after his electoral victory. He also noted that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended Rahman’s swearing-in ceremony on February 17 and delivered a letter from the Indian Prime Minister.

During the visit, Birla also held a bilateral meeting with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister.

Jaiswal further mentioned that India aims to build warm and historically deep-rooted ties with Bangladesh and engage closely with the new government.

“We look forward to working with the new government to further strengthen our diverse bilateral relationship with Bangladesh and advance cooperation,” he said.
