In 11 days remittance came to 8 thousand 986 crores

On the 11th day of January, the first month of the new year, expatriate Bangladeshis living in different countries sent remittances worth 736.6611 million dollars. In Bangladeshi currency (122 taka per dollar) which amounts to 8 thousand 986 crore 52 lakh taka. According to that, more than 816 crore rupees are coming daily.

This information has come out from Bangladesh Bank sources.

According to the information of the central bank, remittances of 736.6610 thousand dollars have arrived in the first 11 days of January. If the pace of remittances continues like this, the remittances will exceed two billion dollars this month as well. During the discussed period, 20 million 19 million 30 thousand dollars were received through government banks, 2 million 48 million 50 thousand dollars were received through one of the two specialized banks (Krishi Bank). Remittances of 50 million 73 million 30 thousand dollars have come through private banks. And more than 2.5 million dollars came through foreign banks.

Before this, the highest remittance of 2.64 billion dollars or 263.9 million dollars in the history of the country has come in the month of December. The amount in local currency is more than Tk 31,668 crore.

Never before has such a large amount of remittances come in as a single month. Earlier, in July 2020, during the Corona period, $2.59 billion in remittances were received. This time the record was broken by December 2024, the month of victory.

According to the data of Bangladesh Bank, in the last month of December 2024, remittances came in at around 2.64 billion dollars. Which is $648 million more than the same period last year. Last year, $199.1 million came in December. Except for July 2024, remittances received in the remaining 11 months were more than $2 billion.

According to the data, Bangladeshi expatriates living in different countries have sent remittances worth one thousand 377 million dollars in the first half of the current financial year 2024-25 (July-December). Which is $2.977 billion more than the same period of the last fiscal year. Remittances in the first half of the last fiscal year (July-December) were $1.8 billion.
