Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organized the 3rd Accounting Educators’ Conference on the theme “Changing Accounting Landscape and Accounting Education in Bangladesh” on Friday as part of its continued initiative to promote professional accounting education and research in Bangladesh.
In addition to knowledge sharing, the conference offered an excellent platform to build a strong network between academicians and practicing professionals for mutual benefit.
Suleman Khan, Secondary and Higher Education Secretary, inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. He appreciated ICMAB for leading in organizing such an event with the accounting educators. He opined that this could translate into our future accountants being well-versed in the fundamentals and equipped to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing accounting landscape.
Abdur Rahman Khan, President of ICMAB and the guest of honor of the conference, ensured that ICMAB is always committed to supporting the professional development of educators and the broader accounting community. He requested the accounting educators share the takeaways from the conference technical sessions with the students.
There were three technical sessions. The first session was entitled ‘The Future Reporting Framework: Sustainability Reporting’, where Kausar Alam, FCS, FCCA, ACA (ICAEW), FCMA, Secretary, ICMAB, and Group CFO and Company Secretary, Seven Circle (Bangladesh) Limited, presented the keynote. Touhidul Alam Khan FCMA, CSRA, Additional Managing Director, Chief Credit Officer, The Premier Bank PLC, participated in the session as the commentator, and Arif Khan FCMA, Council member, ICMAB, and Vice Chairman, Shanta Asset Management Limited, chaired the session.
During the second session, ‘Accounting Education in Bangladesh: How Far It Fits to Business?’, Prof. Mahfuzul Hoque, Department of AIS, University of Dhaka, presented a keynote. Jahangir Alam FCMA, Council member, ICMAB, and Group CEO, Bangla Trac Group, hosted the panel discussion on the keynote. Muzaffar Ahmed FCMA, FCS, Executive President, Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd., and Roomee Tareque Moudud ACMA (UK), FCMA, Director, OPA, American International University, Bangladesh, participated in the session as discussants.
The final technical session, ‘Changing Accounting Landscape Through Disruptive Technologies,’ was chaired by Mahtab Uddin Ahmed FCMA, Vice President, ICMAB, and Founder and Managing Director of BuildCon Consultancies Limited. Hasnain Thoufiq Ahmed FCMA, Council member, ICMAB, and Transformation Director, Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, presented the keynote during the session. Maksudur Rahman, FCMA, CEO of Edison Logistics Business, participated in the session as a commentator.
The conference convener, Jamal Ahmed Choudhury FCMA, Council Member, ICMAB, and Director, Accounts & Finance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, moderated the valedictory session to get opinions and feedback from the participants. Kausar Alam, FCMA, Secretary, ICMAB, concluded the day-long conference with a vote of thanks.
One hundred twenty-seven accounting educators from 70 universities and colleges in 21 districts of Bangladesh participated in the conference. A vibrant Q&A session after each technical session made the program successful.
