Human chain demanding establishment of Chinese hospital

Md. Abdul Based Panchagarh Correspondent: A human chain has been held demanding establishment of Chinese-gifted hospital in Debiganj, Panchagarh.

This hour-long human chain was held at Bijoy Chattar of Debiganj Municipal Sadar at 12 noon today, Saturday. In addition to leaders and activists of various political parties, several thousand ordinary people, regardless of profession and class, participated in the program organized under the banner of the people of Debiganj.

It is learned that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations, the Chinese government has announced the construction of 3 hospitals with 1,000 beds in Bangladesh as a gift. The local people have organized this human chain demanding establishment of one of these hospitals in Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh.

Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation Panchagarh district branch president and former Amir of Upazila Jamaat Abul Bashar Basunia, Upazila BNP president Abdul Gani Basunia, Organizing Secretary and Chilahati UP Chairman Harun Or Rashid, Municipal BNP president Sarkar Faridul Islam, General Secretary Ashraful Alam Sohel, Upazila Volunteer Party convener Kaderi Kibria Rana, Islami Andolan Debiganj branch president Kamrul Hasan Pradhan, Debiganj Development Forum convener Ziaur Rahman Zia and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinator Wasis Alam spoke at the human chain.

The speakers said that as there is no medical college or big government hospital in Panchagarh, about 1.3 million people in the district have been deprived of modern medical facilities for a long time. It takes a long time to reach Rangpur Medical College Hospital, as a result, many of the dying patients die on the way. Although there are medical colleges in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari, there is none in Panchagarh, as a result of which the people here are repeatedly deprived of medical treatment.

Therefore, if a hospital gifted by China is established in Debiganj, not only Panchagarh but also the people of the surrounding districts will get improved medical facilities. In addition, the communication system is favorable as the distance from Saidpur Airport to Debiganj is short. In addition, there is a suitable environment for building a hospital as there is sufficient vacant land in Debiganj. The speakers drew the attention of the Chief Advisor and strongly demanded the establishment of a hospital in Debiganj
