Nurul Sylhet Correspondet: As promised by the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet, a raid was conducted on Kinbridge from Saturday morning to noon.
The operation was led by Sylhet City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Reza-e Rafison Sarkar and district administration officials.
Kin Bridge, a symbol of Sylhet’s heritage. Due to the risk, this bridge is closed to vehicles, only motorcycles, and the city’s small and floating traders have been evicted.
Sylhet City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Rezai Rafin Sarkar told reporters, “Laldighirpar Hawkers Market is ready for hawkers. We are also fixing whatever deficiencies there are. They will have to settle there.”
Meanwhile, Sylhet District Administration Assistant Commissioner Md. Parvez told reporters that Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam visited Kin Bridge after noon. He took a strict stance against hawkers occupying the bridge or the highway.
He also said that all the hawkers should go to the Laldighirpar Hawkers Market. It will take a week to get it completely ready. During this time, the hawkers will be able to sit on the sidewalk. Strict action will be taken against them if they come out on the road.
Later, former mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury also visited Kinbridge with Sylhet City Corporation officials.
Although the Kinbridge is a symbol of Sylhet’s heritage, recently the bridge had become a market. Small traders used to sit and sell their daily necessities and other goods from morning till late at night.
Conscious citizens have been demanding their eviction for a long time.
