Govt to increase research on climate-resistant crops – Agriculture Minister

BM Report:

Agriculture Minister Abdus Shahid said that research will be increased to deal with the damage caused by climate change in agriculture. He said that the agriculture sector is the most affected in Bangladesh due to global climate change. To deal with this loss, special importance has been laid in the development of climate change resistant crop varieties and technologies. A lot of success has already come from the hands of our agronomists. In the future, research activities will be strengthened to deal with the damage caused by climate change.

The minister said this at the inauguration of the South Asian Regional Workshop on ‘Climate Action and Food System Transformation’ organized by Michigan State University and Farming Future Bangladesh at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Tuesday morning.

The minister said that our scientists and research institutes are working earnestly to maintain food security and food production for the growing population. As a result, agricultural production is gradually increasing through the innovation and expansion of climate change-tolerant agricultural technology.

Chaired by Emeritus Professor MA Sattar Mandal and moderated by former Agriculture Secretary Anwar Farooq, Senior Associate Dean of Michigan State University George Smith, Director of International Programs Karim Mayerdia, Executive Director of Global Alliance for Science Sheila Kaka Ochugboju, CEO of Farming Future Bangladesh Arif Hossain gave speeches in the event.
