Govt sends new pay scale gazette to state-owned banks

B Mirror Report:  The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has sent the gazette on the National Pay Scale 2026 to six state-owned banks and three other public institutions, directing them to take necessary steps to implement the new pay structure.

The Administration Branch of the Financial Institutions Division issued a letter in this regard on Wednesday (October 7).

According to the letter, the Finance Division issued the gazette on September 17 for autonomous public bodies and state-owned enterprises under the National Pay Scale 2026. Copies of the gazette have now been forwarded to the concerned institutions for necessary action.

The letter, signed by Financial Institutions Division Deputy Secretary Sharmin Sultana, was sent to the managing directors and chief executive officers of six state-owned banks.

The banks are Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Rupali Bank, BASIC Bank and Bangladesh Development Bank PLC.

Copies of the gazette were also sent to the managing director of The Security Printing Corporation (Bangladesh) Limited and the director of the Bangladesh Insurance Academy.

Earlier, the government issued a notification on September 19 to implement the new national pay structure for government employees. Under the new structure, the minimum basic salary has been set at Tk 20,000, while the maximum basic salary has been fixed at Tk 156,000.

The new pay structure will be implemented in phases over the 2026-27 and 2027-28 fiscal years. The first phase will cover July 1 to December 31, 2026, followed by the second phase from January 1 to June 30, 2027, and the third phase from July 1 to December 31, 2027. Allowances under the new structure will take effect from January 1, 2028.

Under the notification, salaries will be refixed based on the basic pay in force on June 30, 2026. Employees will receive 40% of the difference between their existing and new basic salaries from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

From January 1 to June 30, 2027, 70% of the difference will be paid, while the full new basic salary will come into effect from July 1, 2027.

According to Finance Division sources, Tk 37,000 crore has been allocated in the current fiscal year to pay 70% of the difference in basic salaries in two phases.
