B Mirror Report: The government is working with a long-term vision to position Bangladesh among the world’s top 10 digital economies within the next decade, said Rehan Asif Asad, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
He made the remarks on Sunday at an event marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
The advisor said that although achieving the goal is challenging, it is not impossible. He added that the government is implementing a phased plan with continuous development of necessary digital infrastructure.
He further noted that preparations are underway for the rollout of 5G services in the country, alongside the development of a strong nationwide fiber optic network within the next five years to support advanced connectivity.
Rehan Asif Asad also said that initiatives are being taken to reduce tax rates in the telecom sector to encourage investment and expand digital services across the country.
In addition, he announced plans to introduce a nationwide digital ID system and digital wallet within the next two years. He said these initiatives will simplify financial transactions and significantly accelerate the country’s digital economy.
