The government has lifted the long-standing ban on the direct listing of government-owned, privately owned and multinational companies on the country’s stock exchanges, aiming to support the sustainable development of the capital market.
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification in this regard on Monday (October 5).
Signed by Deputy Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid, the notification said the restriction imposed through a memorandum issued on February 1, 2010, on the direct listing of government-owned, privately owned and multinational companies on stock exchanges has been withdrawn in the interest of sustainable capital market development.
The decision was taken in response to a demi-official (DO) letter issued by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on August 19, 2026, according to the notification.
As a result, government-owned, private and multinational companies will now have the opportunity to list directly on stock exchanges, subject to compliance with the applicable rules and regulations.
The notification has been sent to the chairman of the BSEC, with copies provided to relevant officials of the Financial Institutions Division for their information.
The government had imposed the ban on direct listing of the concerned companies through a memorandum issued on February 1, 2010.
