B Mirror Report: Gas has been discovered at the Sundalpur-4 appraisal-cum-development well in Senbag upazila of Noakhali, with initial estimates suggesting the well could add around 7 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) confirmed the discovery on Tuesday after completing the drilling of the well at Baro Charigaon village in Nabipur union.
Drilling of the well began on July 28. The well was drilled to a depth of 1,578 metres using directional drilling and Measurement While Drilling (MWD) technology.
Gas was detected in a zone between 1,420 and 1,460 metres below the surface, according to Bapex sources.
A Drill Stem Test (DST) is currently underway to determine the volume of gas reserves and the well’s production capacity.
Mozammel Haque, project director of the Sundalpur-4 appraisal-cum-development well project, confirmed the discovery and said the DST would continue for another two to three days.
He said the well is initially expected to supply around 7 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid. However, the actual reserve and production capacity will be known after completion of the DST.
