Fuel Ship Berthing Prioritized at Chattogram Port

B Mirror Report: There are currently 14 fuel-carrying ships anchored in Chattogram Port’s outer anchorage, and more are anticipated to arrive shortly. The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has made the decision to give berthing facilities for these vessels top priority in order to ensure a continuous fuel supply for both the public and commercial sectors.

The 14 ships include ships carrying diesel and furnace oil from Singapore and Malaysia, as well as five LNG and two LPG carriers from Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

The decision was taken during a coordination meeting chaired by CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, with CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim confirming the move today. The meeting focused on ensuring a smooth fuel supply chain and efficient bunkering of fuel oil.

Participants included port members, senior officials, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Omera Fuel Limited, Padma Oil Company, Bangladesh Oceangoing Ship Owners Association, Coastal Ship Owners Association, and Bangladesh Ship Handling and Berth Operators Association.

The port secretary noted that despite global conflicts and volatility in the oil market, Bangladesh’s fuel supply system is functioning normally. Continuous arrivals of fuel-carrying ships will maintain an orderly supply chain, with Singapore and Malaysia remaining the main sources of fuel.

CPA confirmed that there are no issues with the fuel supply system, and the country’s fuel reserves are sufficient to meet demand. Operational and logistical activities at the port continue uninterrupted, ensuring no crisis for maritime, commercial, or industrial sectors.

Law enforcement agencies have also stepped up security for ships at the outer anchorage to ensure safe operations.
