Former MD of Islami Bank Monirul Mawla arrested

The former Managing Director (MD) of Islami Bank, Muhammad Monirul Mawla, has been taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB).
He was taken into custody at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, from his residence in the capital’s Bashundhara neighborhood. He was subsequently brought to the Minto Road DB office. Last night, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, the DB Joint Police Commissioner (South), confirmed the arrest. Muhammad Monirul Mawla is facing an ACC charge, he said. At approximately 12:15 am, he was taken into custody from his Bashundhara residence. Following the arrest, he was detained by DB. There are ongoing legal proceedings.

Muhammad Monirul Mawla emailed his resignation letter and departed the office on December 19 of last year. The managing director, CEO, and MD of the bank, Monirul Mawla, as well as former chairman of Islami Bank and notorious businessman S Alam, are among the 58 individuals the ACC has charged with embezzling Tk 1,924.6 million in loans from Islami Bank through fraud.
