Fish Valued at Tk 2 Million Perish in Rajbari

Md. Nazrul Islam, Rajbari District Correspondent: In Rajbari, more than 20 lakhs of fish has been damaged due to enmity. On Monday night, Rajbari poisoned the brick pond in Matipara area of Sadar Upazila. On Tuesday morning, when the fish floated dead, they realized that they had been poisoned.

Mostafizur Rahman Likhan, the former president of Rajbari district volunteer group, said that fish is the wealth of the country. Those who have harmed by using poisons have harmed not only the pond owners but also the country. Criminals should be identified and brought to justice.

Locals said, Kazi Arafat Hasan Jisan has been farming fish along with brick kiln for a long time. Various species of fish including Tilapia, Pangas, Rui, Catal, Puti are cultivated in the pond. Dead fish floated in the pond since morning. Different people catch fish. Those who have done enmity with the fish, I demand to identify them and take action.

The owner of the pond Kazi Arafat Hasan Jisan said, he came to the pond on Tuesday morning and saw the fish floating dead. There are disputes with locals Farid Molya, Zakir Molya, Jahangir Molya, Palash Molya and Shamim Molya. If there is a case in the court, I get the verdict. Still they are bent on harming me. I think due to land dispute, they poisoned my pond and caused damage to fish of different species worth 20 lakh rupees. Legal action will be taken on the matter.

Rajbari Sadar Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Halima Sardar said that water, pictures and fish have been collected from the surface pond after receiving information. The pond owner has been asked to take legal action.
