Fire at Fortune Shoe Warehouse

A fire erupted at the warehouse of Fortune Shoes, a publicly traded shoe manufacturer focused on exports.

The incident occurred around 10 PM on Tuesday, March 25, at the company’s facility situated in the Kaunia BSCIC Industrial Park in Barisal. While the fire is expected to have caused considerable damage, there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Six units from the Barisal Fire Service promptly arrived at the scene to assist in extinguishing the flames, successfully bringing the fire under control by approximately 11:30 PM.

Witnesses reported seeing the blaze at around 10 PM and quickly alerted the fire service. Firefighters, aided by local residents, worked to contain the fire, which took about 45 minutes to manage and over an hour to fully extinguish.

Helal Uddin Khan, assistant director of the Barisal Fire Service and Civil Defense, stated, “Upon receiving the fire alert, six units swiftly arrived and began efforts to put it out. However, the warehouse was sealed on all sides and contained flammable materials, which delayed initial control of the fire.”

He also noted that the smoke complicated the firefighting efforts, leading to some personnel experiencing health issues.

The precise cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage remain unknown. Fire service officials indicated that further details will emerge following a thorough investigation.
