Finance Ministry Flags Deepfake Video of Adviser

A phony film that was made with the voice and picture of Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the interim government’s finance adviser, has been making the rounds on social media.

The Ministry of Finance has advised people to be on the lookout for such news or videos. A press release was released on Sunday with the warning.

“Recently, a vested party used the image and video of Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed for their marketing or promotional operations through the dissemination of a bogus video/news on Facebook,” the press release said. There is absolutely no relationship between the Ministry of Finance and the Finance Adviser and the remarks and material presented in that film.

The release further added, “It is initially suspected that the video was created using AI technology, where voice modification and the background image of the Finance Adviser were used to mislead the public. Such activities tarnish the social and state dignity of the Finance Adviser.”

The Ministry of Finance said that steps have already begun to remove the fake video and take legal action. Citizens have been urged not to be misled by similar fake videos or news, to avoid them, and not to engage in any financial transactions without proper verification and confirmation.
