Farmers benefit from hands-on training at partner field schools

Md. Abdul Based Panchagarh Correspondent: Farmers are benefiting from the use of modern technology and production in agriculture as a result of hands-on training at Partner Field School in Tentulia, Panchagarh.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Department, schools and teams have been formed in each union of the upazila under the Partner Field Project. The activities of this project will start in July 2023 and will continue till June 2028. This Partner Field School is being run under the Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNERS) project. Each school has a team of 25 farmers and agriculturists. They receive training for 3 hours a day a week for a total of ten days. The aim of the training is to make farmers smart and skilled in agricultural work. In addition, various technologies for nutrition development, agro-processing and eco-friendly farming are being expanded.

On Tuesday morning, it was seen that groups of farmers of different ages were sitting on plastic sheets on the side of various roads in the village of Tentulia Upazila, in the open or in the courtyard of a farmer’s house, holding notebooks and pens in their hands. The farmers present said that they were being taught various techniques of nutrition development, agro-processing and eco-friendly farming. The properties and use of fertilizers were taught through acting. The farmers, having learned from this, are playing a role in controlling crop diseases and pests and increasing production, as well as meeting family nutritional needs. The schools are run by the staff and assistant agricultural staff of the Upazila Agriculture Department. A visit to various unions in Upazila revealed the exceptional scene of such schools for marginal farmers in the village.

Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Jiban Islam said, under the Partner Project, the Partner Field School is being run under the Upazila Agricultural Extension Office. In this school, farmers are constantly learning new agricultural technology techniques.

Upazila Agricultural Officer Tamanna Faredous said, 25 farmers are participating in the school and gaining practical knowledge about new farming techniques and safe vegetable and rice seeds and seed production and preservation of any crop. Already, there is a lot of interest among the farmers about this school.
