The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has granted an excise duty exemption on air tickets for Hajj pilgrims for the year 2026. This initiative has been taken to reduce the cost of performing Hajj and to help fulfill the aspirations of devout Muslims wishing to undertake the pilgrimage.
A press release on this matter was issued by the NBR on Wednesday (10 December). Earlier, on Sunday, a gazette notification was issued by the Internal Resources Division.
To implement the intention of reducing the cost of performing Hajj, an excise duty exemption has been provided on the air tickets of passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj, similar to the exemption given in 2025.
As a result, each Hajj pilgrim will save approximately 5,000 taka on the cost of air tickets for traveling to and returning from Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Hajj.
